This cartoon reflects the Democratic charge that business corporations (“The Trusts”) were bankrolling the election campaign of Theodore Roosevelt in return for political favors. Although the Republican Party collected a large amount from big business in 1904, some of the top donors were later sued by the administration for antitrust violations. The depiction here of Roosevelt as an obliging lamb contrasts with the imperialist crown on his head.
