Complete HarpWeek Explanation:
This cartoon reflects the Democratic charge that business corporations (“The Trusts”) were bankrolling the election campaign of Theodore Roosevelt in return for political favors. Although the Republican Party collected a large amount from big business in 1904, some of the top donors were later sued by the administration for antitrust violations.
