The presidential nominee is portrayed as the “Free Silver Idol” before which the national credit is offered. On the left, John Peter Altgeld, the controversial former governor of Illinois, stomps on “Law and Order,” while Senator James K. Jones of Arkansas, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, slices the “Full Dinner Pail” in half with a “Free Silver” knife. On the right, William J. Stone, former Missouri governor and vice-chairman of the Democratic National Committee, burns a banker at the stake. |
