Published shortly before George Dewey withdrew from the presidential race, this postdated cover of Judge, the Republican humor magazine, shows how the admiral’s venture into politics had left a sour taste in his mouth. Laughing in the background are the two eventual nominees of the Democratic and Republican parties, respectively, William Jennings Bryan (left) and William McKinley (right).
