At the turn of the twentieth century, there was considerable public discussion whether the horseless carriage (automobile) would, and whether it should, replace the horse as the predominate mode of transportation. This Judge cartoon clearly uses automobiles as symbols of progress and prosperity under Republican rule, which both workingmen and businessmen enjoy.
