Published on June 30, a few days before Independence Day, this cartoon portrays Governor David B. Hill of New York as a boy who has failed to ignite presidential “booms” in the South, East, and West. That he has managed only to get a flicker of light in his home state is a warning that his presidential aspirations are in vain and that he should stick with trying to win reelection as governor.
