In the foreground of this Puck cartoon, Uncle Sam is a college professor who remarks that the contest for the Republican presidential nomination will answer the paradoxical question of what happens “when an Irresistible Force meets an Immovable Body.” Challenger Theodore Roosevelt is the “Irresistible Force” running full speed toward the “Immovable Body” of President William Howard Taft, who appears as a mountain.
