Complete HarpWeek Explanation:
Although President Theodore Roosevelt did not go on a campaign tour in 1908 as this cartoon suggests, he provided continual advice to William Howard Taft, frequently voiced criticisms of Democratic nominee William Jennings Bryan, and undoubtedly earned Taft votes through his close association with the Republican nominee.
