This cover-cartoon is a sequel to "A Job Lot," and appeared on newsstands October 29, five days before the presidential election. It is a warning from Harper's Weekly and artist Thomas Nast that in electing Blaine the voters would really be choosing Jay Gould to run the country in his own self-interest. Significantly, Blaine has turned his back on the nation, contrasting with the full frontal view of Gould, who anxiously checks the election returns. As in "A Job Lot," on the wall in the background are portraits of Gould's former partners-in-crime, Jim Fisk and William Tweed, and a poster of the "Fort Boodle Co." personnel.
